“I Felt Like I Got Some of My Life Back”: One Mom’s Prenatal Chiropractic Journey

Pregnancy can be an amazing experience.
But it can also be hard on your body.
As your baby grows, your body is constantly changing and adapting. Sometimes that means aches and pains that make everyday things—walking, sleeping, getting dressed, or simply moving around—much harder than they used to be.
For Kelsey W., that’s exactly what she was experiencing when she was referred to Dr. Lockwood by her OB’s office.
When Pregnancy Makes Everyday Movement Difficult
Kelsey started care during her first or second trimester after experiencing significant body pain.
She shared:
“I was recommended by my OB’s office when I was in my first or second trimester of pregnancy. I was having a lot of body pain, and moving around was difficult.”
I think so many moms can relate to that feeling.
You’re excited about your growing baby, but at the same time, your body doesn't feel like your own.
Things that used to be easy suddenly take more effort.
And when you're uncomfortable every day, it can start affecting more than just your physical body.
It can affect your confidence, your energy, and how you feel about your ability to make it through pregnancy and birth.
Understanding Your Pregnant Body Matters
One of the things Kelsey appreciated most about working with Dr. Lockwood was that she didn't simply receive care—she learned about her body.
She said:
“Dr. Lockwood is such a joy to work with! She’s an expert on pregnant women’s bodies and what they need. She was so informative. I learned so much about my body, how it works during pregnancy…”
That education is such an important part of prenatal care.
Your body is changing rapidly throughout pregnancy.
Your center of gravity changes.
Your posture changes.
Your pelvis and spine experience different demands.
And every trimester brings its own unique challenges.
Having someone who understands those changes can help you feel more confident about what you're experiencing and how you can support your body throughout pregnancy.
Chiropractic Care Isn't Just About Pain
Kelsey's story is also a great reminder that prenatal chiropractic care isn't just about getting out of pain.
Yes, she came in because she was hurting.
Yes, moving was difficult.
But what she ultimately gained was bigger than that.
She said:
“I felt like I got some of my life back…”
That's the goal.
Because when you're pregnant, you don't want your entire experience to revolve around what hurts.
You want to enjoy your pregnancy.
You want to move.
You want to prepare for your baby.
You want to feel confident in your body.
You want to feel like yourself as much as possible during a season when so much is changing.
And Then There's Postpartum
One of my favorite parts of Kelsey's story is that her care didn't end when her baby arrived.
She continued working with Dr. Lockwood throughout her postpartum journey.
She shared that Dr. Lockwood:
“…has also been great throughout my postpartum journey.”
That's important because having a baby doesn't mean your body instantly returns to its pre-pregnancy state.
Pregnancy and birth are major physical transitions, and postpartum brings an entirely new set of demands.
You're feeding a baby.
You're carrying a baby.
You're lifting.
You're bending.
You're sleeping differently—or barely sleeping at all.
Your body is adapting to a completely new routine.
Postpartum deserves care, too.
Confidence Matters
Perhaps the most powerful part of Kelsey's review is something that can't be measured on an X-ray or a scale.
She said prenatal chiropractic care:
“…also helped my confidence during my pregnancy and preparing to give birth.”
That matters.
Pregnancy can come with a lot of uncertainty.
Your body is doing things you've never experienced before.
You may have questions.
You may wonder whether what you're feeling is normal.
And you may worry about how your body is going to handle labor and delivery.
Having a provider who can educate you, support you, and help you understand the changes happening in your body can make a meaningful difference in how you experience pregnancy.
You Don't Have to Just “Get Through” Pregnancy
If you're pregnant and you're struggling with pain or movement, please don't assume you simply have to suffer because you're pregnant.
Talk to your prenatal provider.
Build a care team that understands pregnancy.
And if prenatal chiropractic care is appropriate for you, work with someone who is experienced in caring for pregnant women.
Because pregnancy isn't just about getting the baby here.
It's about taking care of the woman carrying that baby, too.
And sometimes, the biggest win isn't simply feeling less pain.
Sometimes it's being able to say:
“I feel like I got some of my life back.”

Thank you to Kelsey W. for sharing her experience, and to Davinci Obstetrics and Gynecology for the referral.
